About the NDIS
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) was introduced by the Australian Government to fund costs associated with disability. It is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).
Who is eligible for the NDIS?
To be eligible, you’ll need to meet some basic criteria relating to your age, Australian Residency status and the nature of your disability. You can find all the eligibilty information and apply directly from the NDIS website, here.
What is an NDIS plan?
An NDIS plan is created based on the details you provide in your planning meeting with your Local Area Coordinator (LAC). Your plan is all about you and your goals. It contains a breakdown of the different supports needed to help you achieve your goals, along with how much funding has been allocated to each category.
What's covered by the NDIS?
The NDIS covers the cost of supports in three main categories, Core Supports, Capital Supports and Capacity Building Supports. These categories include funding that assists with education, employment, living arrangements and health and wellbeing.
Core Supports are the basic things you need to live your daily life. This includes assistance with daily living, transport, things you use every day and need because of your disability, and things that would assist you with social and community participation.
Capital Supports are for higher cost items that support you in your daily life, and are usually one-off purchases. They can include things like wheelchairs, prosthetics and other assistive technology, as well as modifications to make your home or vehicle more suitable for you.
Capacity Building Supports assist you to build the skills to become more independent and includes things like therapy.
Plan Management
What is NDIS Plan Management?
NDIS participants have options when it comes to the management of their NDIS funds.
Plan Management is one of these options. Other options are agency-managed, self-managed, and a combination of these.
At MY Plan Accountant, we love taking the stress out of managing NDIS plans. With your permission we happily manage your NDIS claims, pay your service providers, reconcile balances, track expenditure, provide you with 24/7 access to our Online Portal and provide you with monthly statements.
We've also made it easy for you to join us - it's now a simple 3-step process. You can join us by clicking here.
How much does Plan Management cost?
It costs you nothing. Plan management is covered by the NDIA and is available to all NDIS participants - you just need to ask for it during your planning meeting with your Support Coordinator. It does not affect your other NDIS funding.
What are the benefits of Plan Management?
When you choose MY Plan Accountant to manage your NDIS Plan, you have the ability to choose any service providers you like to deliver your supports, even if they're not registered with the NDIS. In addition to this, you won't have to use the NDIS Portal, and you'll have ongoing support with all things NDIS. You can go about living your best life while we take care of the nitty gritty of managing your NDIS plan.
How do I know if Plan Management is in my NDIS Plan?
Firstly you need to have a copy of your NDIS Plan. If you don't have one you can download it from the NDIS Myplace participant portal, by logging into MyGov and selecting NDIS from the "Your Services" tiles. Click on "My Plan" and then click the link that says ‘print this plan to PDF’. This will save your NDIS Plan to your device.
When you look at your NDIS Plan, you know you have Plan Management approved when you see listed either "Choice and Control" or "Improved Life Choices."
If your Plan doesn't include either of those, then you can request for Plan Management to be included in your Plan at your next meeting, or by calling the NDIA and telling them you'd like a plan review because you want to be Plan Managed by MY Plan Accountant. You'll need to be clear about your reasons, for example, you want more choice and control over the providers you use. The NDIA will review your request and contact you once you've been approved.
